Community: Powerful and Important Medicine

Hi!

At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.  In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!

Could community actually be the key to your patients’ and clients’ wellness?  Learn practical ways to leverage this powerful (and necessary!) approach to wellness in your practice.

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things we’ll be discussing:
  • Why community may be The ultimate driver of health for most
  • Can the status of our social life really cause inflammation?
  • Has the immune system evolved to listen to our social environment?
  • Getting well vs. Staying well: the Difference that matters most
  • Isolation as a true root cause of disease?
  • Practitioner community as a critical tool to prevent burn-out

Thank you very much for joining in the fun and learning!

With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many –

This whole topic was very emotional. My Father had a heart attack I believe from pure loneliness and me as functional health coach working from home feeling alone and isolated, I wanted to walk away from this profession many times. I know how important community is and ask this question on the intake form so I know how to provide client with support. I had to learn recently to do this for myself as well. The blue zone lwys resonated with me in how purpose, connection, support, and having a real community is key! I believe this is why are healthier and happier and rich filled livessel that keeps them young. It’s never just about the food!! Thank you for talking about this very important topic that no one is really talking about. Human beings doing anything against the grain don’t do well in isolation OR all on their own. Loved how you used to do guided walking tours at Whole Foods. What an brilliant idea!! So many people, including my own husband, can’t make change last for this very reason. What will the people at work think? See this issue everywhere. So many older people as well and go… Read more »

So thankful for you and all that I have learned through these free live videos! A few years ago I might have negated the truth of the need for community. Today I know it to be true (especially as every winter comes along and people staying inside more often) and really appreciate your views on the matter. Great points to share, contemplate and share!

Thank you once again Tracy. This is definitely an area I must work on. Very encouraging, as always!

I love that community was discussed, connection is the key to having a true transformation. I am going to have to watch this video again and take notes, you dropped so much wisdom in this session. A lot of the things you said spoke to me and reminded me why what I do is so needed! I always look forward to the lessons you impart.

Thank you for your message today Tracy! It reminded me that I need to focus on community and the what nexts with a client that is graduating soon. This is super important for sustainable success!
Also I needed to hear the end of your message about building community for ourselves. I have been struggling the last couple weeks trying to figure out what direction to go. Keep on with my health coaching business or get a full time job.
I have gotten renewed a bit this week because I reached out and asked for support from trusted friends.

Thank you, Tracy! The pearls that I loved learning today were about community and the importance of it with clients and practitioners! I can relate in that functional medicine and anything that seems to be different in comparison to conventional medicine seems “weird” to many in my small Pennsylvania town. I have been called “crunchy” by some of my acquaintances and I know they find functional medicine to be odd. However, I have made it a point to find likeminded people who share in the same vision and passion and it is so encouraging! I appreciate learning about the examples of community with the town in France and Rick Warren’s church! Community is such an important aspect of mental and physical health!

Thank you Tracy for giving me the idea and confidence to search for a functional medicine meetup in my area.

Hi Tracy! Thank you for sharing your passion with us today. What a beautiful message. I always tell people I’m crazy; now, I can say I’m a crazy deviant. LOL Your message of the importance of community and the impact of isolation and loneliness on one’s health really resonated with me today and got my wheels turning, once again, with a focus on working toward creating a “Blue Zone” in my own small community. My family is home bound due to medical reasons, and I, the caregiver of them all, am also mostly home bound with the exception of having relief so that I can get out and run errands. As the mother/primary caregiver to 2 very complex special needs adult kids and the recent widow of my husband who suffered from debilitating chronic illness for 6 years before passing away 6 months ago, I understand isolation and loneliness and the impact on so many areas of life all too well. In spite of my circumstances, I have a passion to help people in a holistic way as a health coach and with the hopes of becoming a natural health practitioner as well so people in my community can optimize… Read more »

What a powerful presentation. I liked how you reminded about the importance to go out and do our call which can change so many lives and the importance of us being in a community which feeds our passion and keep us strong. I also connect with the statement that only being healthy people can do their call and have a fulfilling lives. Thank you!! ????????????

The importance of community, and how crucial it is to our overall health that we have community, support and love etc… And how the Blue Zones have amazing community support in common. And how important it is for US, in our fields of health and wellness, that we are supported! Thank you Tracy – I love your meaningful messages and pearls of wisdom! I always learn so much!

You said at the retreat if we didn’t know it we would realize at the end that we are one big family and I wholeheartedly agree. I am grateful to be a part of the SAFM community. Everyone needs to be a part of such a lovely group of individuals. PS. I want to take all the courses so bring it on!!!

Thank you Tracy and all that you do and share with the world! From today’s session, so many things resonated, however the connection to self and a warm world, something bigger, as I lived it this year. I was diagnosed with hashimotos 2016 postpartum and have pretty much done my own deep dives and ultimately healed myself after seeing several specialists and realizing how much self-healing power I posess. I’m actively writing a self-healing article and many of the things you mentioned in today’s live were similar concepts I am trying to frame my article around! It is so amazing! I feel so aligned with what I’m meant to do, but as you said, that fear wants to keep sneaking up to keep me in my comfortable box. I have transformed and grown so much in this year than ever before in my life so feel very strongly about moving forward and sharing my authentic self with others. Take it or leave it! I keep asking myself “ what are you so afraid of?” It’s surprising how self motivating this is for me. Thank you!!!!

I love what you said about community! So often we are alone. When we start this journey, oftentimes our friends and family don’t understand us. It’s wonderful to have each other. I also think that the pearls about being healed and not always actually permanently healed ties into what you said about the ongoing self care being critical. Always loving these lives!
