Deep Dive on Beyond the Science: Practitioner Pitfalls and Best Practices

Hi!

Are you confident in your knowledge of going Beyond the Science, as seen through the functional medicine lens?

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I am certain you will learn something new in this video. You’ll walk away with pages of notes and practical pearls you can use in your practice right away.

Here are some of the things we’ll be discussing:

  • What’s the surprising, single largest choice you can make to set up your patients for more positive (or negative health) outcomes?
  • When and How is the Diagnosis doing more harm than you realize?
  • How to tap into your best (free!) resource to help create sustainable patient results.
  • The top 3 reasons they don’t actually Get Well.
  • If you don’t do ________________ consistently, your ability to help patients is likely going to be cut very short.
  • Are you missing the Forest as you focus on the Trees?
  • The #1 obstacle that gets in the way of patients’ success even for the savviest of practitioners.

Thank you very much for joining in the fun and learning!

With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many –

Please share your thoughts in the “Ask a Question” area below about what inspired you in this presentation… Include what type of practitioner you are, so that we can all see your unique perspective.

Functional medicine saved my life years ago when it was a fairly new science. I’m about to open my own practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner with what I learn through this program. I was very surprised to hear about the placebo surgeries. Thank you for the video.

I like the way you talked about that one person with a 50-50 chance. You said very positively that 50% of these people did very well, emphasizing the success that she could have rather than 50% of these people are going to die. Be honest with the patient but we need to believe in that help and convey the feeling of hope for her or him.

Hello!
As usual Tracey does not disappoint! I am a practicing chiropractor who regularly listens to the SAFM monthly webinars. The part I enjoyed the most this month was learning about the Placebo effect in patient care. I had never really thought about how my hope & optimism shown for the patient could so dramatically impact their clinical outcomes. Tracey has inspired me to think more deeply about how I communicate with my patients. I am excited to use this new information first thing Monday morning! Tracey is a gifted teacher and I hope to have the opportunity to join the SAFM school in one of the upcoming semester programs. Thank you for this great webinar!

Hi!! I am really enjoying listening to yor videos and participating of the Deep Dive Allergy Clinical Course. I am an allopathic physician trying to learn as much as possible of functional medicine to start implementing aspects of it on my current practice. Today’s talks reminded me of the importance to show empathy at all times, particularly in a time constraint patient’s visit. I know I can do more than I am actually doing in terms of treatment with my patients. Many of my patients are unaware of the impact their emotional status and lifestyle changes have on their overall health. Thank you for an excellent talk!

Hi tracy, I am a PA-C working in conventional medicine. I think your comments on the patient’s intuition and empathy really struck me. I will say that learning medicine in a PA school did actually teach me to always listen and be empathetic. I think us PA’s are very good at that. It has helped me so much to be able to connect with the patient and be able to buy into their journey. Even if it’s just about their bad day, or what is going on in their personal life, just to hear “thanks for listening” warms my heart and healing ability. Can’t wait for more!!! Thanks Tracy <3

Thanks for another wonderful video Tracy! Your comments about “Stop talking and listen to the patient’s intuition” resonates with me. It’s so true that usually people have an idea of the trigger of their symptoms, we just need to listen. Would love to be entered in to the draw and have a chance of winning the opportunity for further study with you!

This has always been a pet peeve of mine. I believe we all have an intuitive knowledge of what’s going on in our body/mind and how we got there. This was a very refreshing and needed reminder of how to be present and stop working from our mechanical mind.

I am a student at SAFM and I have most thoroughly enjoyed the Course 101. When I start hearing Tracy’s lectures I just cannot stop therefore even my course I am hopefully completing much ahead of time. Today too she so gracefully explained what we learnt at IIN to ask high mileage questions and then wait and LISTEN. Such a simple thing to do but so invaluable.Empathy is prime. I admire Tracy truly and I love SAFM. It’s the most value for money I have ever experienced. Thank you SAFM Thank you Tracy

I am an integrative nutrition health coach and what inspired me in this talk today was to simply ask the question “How are you feeling?” and not only “what are you feeling”. The importance of eye contact and silence, showing empathy. These are all so simple things, but so easily forgotten on our daily work. Thank you deeply for everything you teach us Tracy. Together we will make a better world!

This was just what I needed right now, I qualified and started practicing in Australia and it’s only since I have been back in the UK that I have felt the pressure to operate more so under a functional medicine practitioner approach. I do sometimes feel that we can get really bogged down Witt testing and science and sometimes lose sight of what the client really needs in the quest to understand the biochemical underlying cause. I am sometimes guilty of talking too much but feel that this is a lack of confidence thing or a need to prove that I know what I’m doing perhaps due to the bad wrap and that Naturopathic medicine gets. I will say that one thing I feel I have in abundance is empathy and have always felt this to be beneficial. I would like to ask Tracy, when you have a client that perhaps divulges some sort of emotional trauma in their past, you mentioned being abused for instance, do you standardly give these clients options or referrals for seeking out some form further emotional support for this or do you leave it down to the client to ask you fir this before… Read more »

I just watched this from Amman, Jordan! Inspiring as usual. I love learning about practical coaching techniques. Afterall, we are dealing with humans. I loved how you explained that telling the truth is better deluvered by empowering them and teaching thrm sbout the dynamics of their disease. Will definitely do that more in my practice using visual aids. Pictures are very powerful ways to provide information that sticks.

Thanks for yet another incredible Facebook live Tracy! Your message reminded me of a saying my father used to say to me when I was a little girl… “you have two ears and one mouth, therefore you need to listen twice as much as you speak!” With love from Cape Town, South Africa 🙂

I always enjoy listening and learning from your videos! I found it fascinating to learn how the brain works with the placebo effect and how the body can heal itself by being fooled into a corrective action that never takes place. The brain is such an amazing and powerful organ. I work in behavioral health and have learn through personal experience how the placebo effect works. How speaking positively and empowering patients through educating them about their health diseases and how their actions can change their health, but it was so exciting to actually hear scientific data proving that it truly does work!!!
