Myths & Missteps Hormones Balancing

I am so excited to share this Facebook Live and THESE POWERFUL PEARLS of functional medicine with you.  At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.

In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!

Hormones are powerful, complex messenger molecules in the body. They are sending chemical signals 24/7, to assure activities throughout the body are coordinated in response to our environment. This is the beautiful *dance* of the hormones that includes metabolic, stress, and sex hormones.  Of course, there are many things which can challenge and interfere with that coordination, leading to imbalance and dysfunction (from hot flashes to IBS to anxiety). Our dancing hormones can start “stepping on each other’s toes”.

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things we’ll be discussing:

 

  • The biggest error that even savvy practitioners make in supporting “adrenal fatigue“.
  • Why the type of hormone testing you use matters. A lot! You’ll be surprised why.
  • The missing link in helping your patients fully overcome PCOS dynamics.
  • A hugely false assumption about menopause and estrogen levels. This is a BIG one.
  • The hormonal triple-threat and how it causes Infertility.
  • Why women’s fears of estrogen are often misplaced – and what to do to support them.

    Hi Tracy,

    Thank you for all the wonderful information! I really enjoyed learning about the inner connection between all the different hormones. I understand the basics on cortisol, but understand more on a deeper level as far as the positive and negative effects it has on the body. The point you touch on about testing and not guessing which seems so logical, but yet practitioners still do it and learning about how bad things can go was very eye opening as it can either go in a really great direction or a not so good direction or even ineffective. Thanks for all you do! Blessed to be able to learn from you!

    I appreciated the explanation about binding globulin which keep the hormones in storage forms preventing cellular effects, hence the need to measure free hormones levels, and for female hormones it is necessary to test the urine, thank you Tracy

    Optimizing clearance of estrogen is very important to balance the HPATG axis.

    Today you directed this topic to women. Do you tx young men who have a COMT met/met and present with for gynecomastia with DIM and Calcium D glucarate?

    Clinical pearl- if you have got lower to moderate levels of Estrogen DIM supplement can bring them down. Low and slow better for metabolism of Estrogens

    Wonderful lecture – I loved ALL the pearls here. Especially your emphasis on stopping the segregation of all the different hormones from metabolic, stress, and sex hormones. Great example on how high insulin related to insulin resistance can cause the ovaries to over produce testosterone resulting in androgen dominance. I was not aware of this and will research more on this topic. I always learn valuable information from you. Thank you for all you do. – Jeanette

    wow another great session. Thank you Tracey! what inspired me the most about todays session is to focus more on the test dont guess. living in Canada it is a bit harder for us to get access to some testing however I really need to make this a bigger part of my practice. I have been using the low and slow strategy with supplements when I dont have the tests to confirm and it has been ok however I do think that finding a lab and doing more tests will better serve my clients.

    PS. I have a question about using DIM for men in their late 40’s and 50’s that are showing signs of estrogen dominance such as man boobs, is this an appropriate option?
