Strong PMS Symptoms and Low Zinc

A Quick Clinical Tip of the day!

A quick tip this morning for all your clients wrestling with severe PMS symptoms. I’ve written before about the most common causes/triggers of rough PMS https://schoolafm.com/ws_cli…/root-cause-of-pms/ but a simple zinc supplement can also give tremendous relief. Research shows those with severe PMS are much more likely to have low zinc, specifically during the luteal phase (2nd half) of the menstrual cycle. Being estrogen dominant (or having high levels of estrogen) promotes retention of copper.  Copper and zinc compete for absorption at both the GI and cellular level.  Supplemental zinc will help these patients/clients to avoid becoming copper-toxic (which increases production of adrenaline in the body). Encourage these clients to try 30-40mg/day zinc citrate or zinc picolinate with food for the full two weeks prior to their period.  It could be a breakthrough!  This might be of interest:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8034078.

I hope this quick clinical tip serves you and your patients and clients.

Warmly,

Signature Small
