Hi!
I am so excited to share this Facebook Live and THESE POWERFUL PEARLS of functional medicine with you. At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.
In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!

One of the most important tenets of functional medicine is the focus on upstream drivers of dis-ease vs. only focusing on downstream symptom relief. While it is a fact that each patient is unique, you can indeed learn to assess, target, and resolve dysfunctions based on these common drivers. With this knowledge you will immediately begin to help client’s achieve rapid relief – they will get well, have faith in your skills and help grow your practice by word of mouth!
Thank you very much for joining in the fun and learning!
With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many –
P.S. If you are passionate about transforming healthcare through the power of functional medicine, we encourage you to learn more about SAFM’s practitioner training programs. Enrollment for our next cohort is now open!

I would love to learn more about the insulin, stress and the cell membrane connection!
Hello.
I am very very new to all this. I am currently enrolled in FNP program half way through and I am having my eyes opened to the multitude of health conditions and symptoms which are pretty much “bandaged” with medications. I am very saddened by the lack of truly identifying the cause and root of all disease.
This is my first interaction with functional medicine. I really do not know anything much about it but I am very eager to learn. I will surely keep in touch.
I really enjoyed the overall feeling of trusting in the body’s power to heal itself. That simple statement explains everything that I feel Functional Medicine embodies. It is also a very easy concept for patients to understand and is empowering as well. Helping people take back control of their health!
Thank you, Tracy, for all of your insights. I love the way you use analogies to increase understanding. What really stood out for me today was when you said, “We identify with our stress.” This really resonated with me today and gave me another level of insight about working with clients on their stress management.
I opened my women’s health center 7 hrs ago so I could better care for my pts whole selves. I love functional/lifestyle medicine and am a sponge when it comes to learning more.
Thank you for all your insight, especially into hormones.
How stress impacts insulin levels and our hormones are tiny messengers. The blood panels look fine but our body show something different.
Your slant on the ever important GUT LINING resonated with me. We need to respect and support all our friendly microbes to counter dis-ease.
I enjoyed everything you talked about today. I am a health coach and want to share and educate everyone about how they can heal themselves from disease if they have the proper tools to do it. I want to learn more about insulin and how stress has such an impact on how it works. I can’t wait to learn more about insulin and its role it plays in our bodies. Thank you again!
Loved thyroid info! Will read more tonight
I thought it was great how you emphasized the body has a reason for everything – it’s not just that the ovaries are pumping out a ton of estrogen, for example…it could be an issue where estrogen is not being cleared very well.
Your skin is a giant mouth. Do not put anything on your skin that you would not put in your mouth.
Your comments about fear-driven compliance really resonated with me. That seems to be an enourmously mis-used tool of conventional medicine. I do not have a question, just a hope for lots more of this positive self-empowering application toward functional healing
Thanks for your sharing!
I’ve learn that the most important thing to do with estrogen dominance is to make sure that we excrete it from the body. I have fibroids, my food intake is totaly adapted to the situation, now I will focus more on excretion. Thanks!
If you wouldn’t eat it, you shouldn’t put it on your body.
Love the hormone explanation on how we are not clearing estrogen properly. That gives more control and opens research on how to fix root cause.
As always thank you Tracy for the information and knowledge! I totally agree with you about providing our clients with positivity and not present fear. I hear too often how my clients feel that they can never get better…that this is the way it will be and can’t change. We must provide education and support for our clients.
The connection between cortisol, insulin and metabolic syndrome. I knew that the stress levels impacted my patient’s blood sugars, and insulin but never understood the connection. This will be helpful in my practice.
I appreciate that you discussed clients that are so neurotic about our modern lifestyle that they are indeed creating tons of unnecessary stress for themselves, and also how important it is to reinforce that the body is strong and capable, if given the right “tools” and environment, and not use scare tactics! So important!
I found the part about hormones very interesting, particularly about 3 hormones we usually have too much of, and 3 that we usually don’t have enough of. I didn’t know that oestrogen was linked with anxiety. Great tips throughout. Thank you for sharing!
Practitioner clarification questions are welcome! Please do not post personal case inquiries.
My main concern stems from my gut health. Your fabulous webinar talked about sub clinical hypothyroidism which is what I have. Is that possibly the reason for my gut issues??? I have had a complete panel and am being treated with a very small dosage of Armour Thyroid. So my numbers are perfect! I’ve also had five bouts of diverticulitis in the past six years and CANNOT go through another. My next step is a functional medicine practitioner to help me in my search for complete wellness. All I do is read, consult with doctors, and play guinea pig with different supplements/remedies trying my best to stay the alternate route. I’m also diagnosed with osteoporosis but refuse the drugs. Also trying to actually gain weight after having lost some due to dental issues (not decay) and diverticulitis episodes. I’m very hard on myself and wear myself out searching for answers. I’m sure stress plays a big role too. Going outside to my mailbox to get yet another cookbook! I LOVE to cook and eat good food! Have always had an interest in healthy eating. I’m basically on my own these days as my husband wants no part of the food I eat.
