True Root Causes of Dis-Ease

Hi!

I am so excited to share this Facebook Live and THESE POWERFUL PEARLS of functional medicine with you.  At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.

In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!

One of the most important tenets of functional medicine is the focus on upstream drivers of dis-ease vs. only focusing on downstream symptom relief. While it is a fact that each patient is unique, you can indeed learn to assess, target, and resolve dysfunctions based on these common drivers. With this knowledge you will immediately begin to help client’s achieve rapid relief – they will get well, have faith in your skills and help grow your practice by word of mouth!

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things we’ll be discussing:

  • How amazingly few things can “go wrong” with the human body.
  • The five most common Root Causes and the three most powerful drivers.
  • Where to focus: Disease or Dis-Ease?
  • Why thyroid function matters so much more than you might think.
  • Order of operations: where to start? Key tricks of the trade.
  • Yes, disease often begins in the gut, but sometimes in ways you likely don’t expect!
  • The #1 area you want to be an expert if you have to choose and focus your learning.
  • How to inspire clients to Do something about their stress vs. just talking about it.

Thank you very much for joining in the fun and learning!

With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many –

As always your videos are so inspiring!!! I want to attend this school so bad!! I appreciated and can relate to fertility/thyroid and insulin resistance. I conceived naturally after cutting out sugar, supporting my thyroid, and working on progesterone l. I never was diagnosed or even had the typical symptoms, but made lifestyle changes and BAM! I just feel like my views align so well with SAFM and I want to dive deeper! I appreciate the reminder about how the body doesn’t just get sick over night, but it’s yeaes of certain lifestyles and it can be prevented!! It’s all so good! Mitochondria info was so fascinating!! Thank you Tracy!!

    Hi Tracy,
I feel so lucky to have found you. Learning
about Dis-eases has been a long standing
goals. I love all the information you provided.
    Thank you for dedication.

    Christie Steiger says:

I loved how you explained such complex concepts on the mitochondria and made it so understandable. Additionally, I was just talking to a friend regarding the Keto diet so this brought clarity as to when that might be a good fit and when that isn’t optimal for their body type/function

    Miranda Adani says:

One very important pearl that I received from Tracy’ talk is that disease does not manifest overnight-I think this is so important for people to understand, once they have a disease and also especially beforehand so they can prevent it! Imagine how much sickness suffering and money would be saved if people could prevent these chronic illnesses, which they can! One prominent functional medicine doctor I’m not sure who it was-it may be Dale Bredeson-said that Alzheimer’s begins at birth! This is true and this is amazing information-there are things that happen at birth and even before birth depending on the health of the mother that could eventually lead someone to Alzheimer’s in later years-Alzheimer’s takes a lifetime to develop and can be prevented! I can get on a soapbox about this too and I love when Tracy gets on a soapbox because we need to get on a soapbox about this! And people don’t want to hear it and they don’t like to hear it but they must!

Thank you so much for sharing your passion and vast knowledge in functional medicine. Would love to hear more about mitochondria using glucose for its fuel source and in turn to stabilize blood sugar. My wheels are turning and it’s making a lot of sense! Very intriguing!

I loved the focus on the importance of order of operations. I work with many cancer survivors who want to jump on a detox as soon as they complete treatment, and their bodies aren’t ready. I also really appreciate the importance of stress reduction. It is so commonly ignored, but I see how much damage it creates. I love that it came up first and that you really stressed that it is so important to address. I really enjoyed the content of the webinar. Thank you!!

    Kim Lemberg says:

    Hi Tracy!
I liked how you worded how the body is always, always, always, thriving to the environment in which it lives in by the choices we make. The top diseases: stress, gut, insulin resistance, toxicity, and hormones/estrogen dominance. Also, how we as PR actioners need to inspire and empowers clients to know how the body is strong and capable of getting well. That if someone had only have 20% of getting well that’s 20%. How the thyroid is connected to gut and gut issues and many people have never ever had a full thyroid panel done only the standard TSH. One should be done annually.

Again so many pearls and thanks so much!

Keep getting insurance to pay for proper labs for people to get answers

    Kylee Archibald says:

Hi Tracy thank you for another amazing video! I especially enjoyed your talk about the cell membrane being the brain of the cell. I have had other training referencing the same and hearing it from you solidified it for me.

  9. 132

Things that mimic estrogen dominance don’t show up on labs. We need
To look at the whole picture

    Adrienne Mills says:

Love that you stood up for the mitochondria 🙂 It really is a great reminder of all of the effects that toxins have on our bodies. Also, the reminder that phase 2 is just as important as phase 1 and often not done correctly when detoxing the liver. Thank you for all you do!

    Rick Reed says:

It is pretty clear now that “they” got the fat-free program wrong 🙂
I couldn’t agree more about what seems to be a lack of continued education for some practitioners and then the fear tactics used. Where has the “do no harm” gone?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion!

    Janne Mellon says:

Love the idea that the body has the capacity to heal itself! Love all things SAFM!

    Good evening!

Tracy’s lecture today was so effervescent (and pearlescent!) as always, but it was especially enlightening to me because my daughter has been trying to conceive. She has a three year old daughter, for whom she had no problem conceiving.

But… AHA!!!!! EUREKA!!!!!! I may have stumbled upon a route for her to investigate! After hearing today about how thyroid and insulin resistance issues could affect fertility, I talked to her this afternoon about having a full thyroid panel – her doctor had only given her a TSH, serum (pituitary) eval.
Sometimes she is sluggish and moody and although she is not fat, has a tendency to put weight on through her stomach – she loves pasta and refined carbs (and has ignored the few lifestyle suggestions I’ve made because I am her mother – and she is 34 years old!).
So, thanks to Tracy and the power of the SAFM I have convinced her to ask her doctor to do a full thyroid panel and check for insulin resistance. (Diabetes runs in my family and I am the only member not to have it.)

Thank you. We have a new avenue to pursue just because I took the time to invest with Tracy and SAFM this afternoon!

    Love you guys!

Thanks once again Tracy for many many pearls, I loved your reference to the cell membrane as the true “brain” of the cell. Why too much oxidadive stress makes the membrane less likely to let in the good stuff, and therefore imperative to decrease as much as possible <3

    Angela Gladkowski says:

I totally agree that people don’t understand how important it is to take their excessive stress seriously. They don’t realize what an impact that it can have on their health. My clients seem to be focused on losing weight more often than not, but they don’t connect stress with their issues. I also loved that you said “We aren’t what we eat, but what we absorb!” So true. I loved this talk. You’re wonderful Tracy, thank you!!

    Sarah Roads says:

I loved hearing you speak on hormones. “Like knitting, they don’t have anything better to do” , I might have to use that! Hearing you say we’re not clearing hormones was a huge lightbulb for me. We’re not making way too much, we just can’t detox! So helpful! Can’t wait to hear you teach more on this. Also loved hearing you say how we need to trust our bodies. Yes!!!

    Beverly Aiello says:

Your ability to synthesize so much information into usable parts relevant to all of us and to all of our clients. I struggle with the voluminous nature of the interrelationships within the human body, so many things affect so many other things. Add to that the stresses of managed care and the encumberances of that system and it is not hard to see why we have a medical system that is tied up in knots. I hope to change that for my patients and myself. Thank you for engaging in what is clearly a passion for you and a blessing for us.

  18. 123

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on carbs, keto, etc. and I’m intrigued by the comment about mitochondria possibly using glucose as the preferred fuel as another means to stabilize blood sugar. We know how smart the body is, so this makes sense. It’s like another detoxification pathway. Love it!!!

    Hi Tracy!
I loved EVERYTHING you spoke of today.
It is my dream to study with you, and I will if not now,
Later in life when Ali can afford it. You bring outstanding value to us all, help raise the ver and you and your team are jus OUTSTANDING!

    Thank you!!!

    ❤️❤️❤️

    Alison says:

Wow! What an amazing wealth of inspiration, love and information you are.
I was particularly fascinated by the fact that our bodies are not necessarily inundated with excess hormones due to over production, but more likely a issue with detoxing!
Thank you for doing what you do
