True Root Causes of Dis-Ease

I am so excited to share this Facebook Live and THESE POWERFUL PEARLS of functional medicine with you.  At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.

In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!

One of the most important tenets of functional medicine is the focus on upstream drivers of dis-ease vs. only focusing on downstream symptom relief. While it is a fact that each patient is unique, you can indeed learn to assess, target, and resolve dysfunctions based on these common drivers. With this knowledge you will immediately begin to help client’s achieve rapid relief – they will get well, have faith in your skills and help grow your practice by word of mouth!

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things we’ll be discussing:

    First thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge so freely with everyone!
    What has inspired me to explore functional medicine was that, after a number of physical symptoms of “dis-ease” which showed up recently for me, I found that the care and advice my GP was not helping, the root causes 🙂 of what was happening were not being looked at – and I wasn not healing. I found a FM practitioner in CA who I connect with who has been a tremendous help. Many of the symptoms I had have disappeared after focusing on my gut. Still a work of healing in progress.
    Another source of inspiration is a friend of mine here in Bermud who is studying with The School of Functional Medicine! F M is the new medicine of this Century and I am keen to learn more !

    It’s so important that people but expecically practioners and wellnesspreneurs
    remember this. So many times we sacrifice our own health to help others.
    It’s so important to schedule ourselves as our most important patient or client

    Thank you once again Tracy for this pearl-packed video. Particularly new concepts and reminders of the not-so-sexy basics that we have to keep in mind before we run away with treating upstream symptoms – like working carefully with stage one and stage two detoxification. Brush border/microvilli in our small intestine and the reminder of the crucial role and the upstream effects from damages it suffers from daily assaults.
    Love your frequent references to our body’s unending effort to keep us alive (even before thriving) and its innate wisdom, like not making disposable body parts 🙂
    And, yes please on a session on glyphosate!!!!

    I am so thrilled I found you! A former graduate of your program recommended your school for my next step in life, so this specific discussion is timely. I love your high energy presentation, but more importantly, I am enjoying listening to so many topics I’ve been reading about over the years: keto, stress, digestion, body healing and balance, nervous system, gut, mitochondria (this year was the first time I’ve heard this word since science in college!) and more. Fascinating. I love the science of all of this. I am even further inspired now to learn more and am excited to pursue an accredited program soon – probably this fall, when my kids go back to school, so the timing is excellent! Thank you!

    I was not aware about stress impacting our blood sugars, but I found this to be true for me personally. While I was working a stressful job a couple of years ago, I was told that my blood sugar was creeping up. They wanted me to talk to a dietician, but I was sure that my diet was not causing my sugars to become elevated. Recently, since becoming a retired RN, I discovered that my blood sugars are normal again. Thank you for reminding me of this and bringing it to my attention again. It’s true!

    Most inspiring (brought to the forefront for me) and very helpful when thinking about my clients is the statement Tracy made about making choices verses what the body is saying to us to thrive. We as health coaches , practitioners, etc. have our work cut out! We need to embrace, support and empower our clients to first dive into the deepest depth of their self to find their self-actualization so that we can create opportunities in which our clients may become habitual in making those choices (bio-individual) to thrive. This can be part of the power needed to live a holistic and integrative way of life.

    Hereditary Angioedema type 3. Her illness is what started me on this journey in hopes of helping her. I am currently studying at IIN and have 2 clients. SAFM is exactly what I have been looking for to help me help others and my daughter better! Thank you for all you do!

    Thank you so much for yet another clinical pearl-filled FB live! As always, there was so much info jammed into one itty bitty time slot, that I can’t pick just one (but for time sake I will). I really enjoyed the reminder that the issue with estrogen dominance isn’t that the body is pumping out an obscene amount of estrogen, but that it’s having a problem with ridding the body of it because the detox pathways aren’t clear. I also loved your point that we shouldn’t use fear with our clients because we are doing them a huge disservice. I fully and completely agree with that. Looking forward to your next FB live!

    So many pearls as usual. A great reminder to address each clients bioindividuality and help them understand that their body is made to function normally but there are so many compounding factors that need to be addressed in order for it to heal and function as it should. Can’t wait for the 4 webinar series!

    I really enjoyed this lecture! I loved hearing about how the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system contribute to our state of health or disease. Managing stress is so important! I also learned that estrogen dominance is due to problems detoxing.
