AFMC Level 3 Overview

Submitting the AFMC Competency Case Study is the third and final step in your initial AFMC certification process and an important milestone in your professional education. It’s critical that you feel confident in your interconnectedness assessment and clinical capabilities before attempting this exam. You must be ready to demonstrate that skill, clearly, succinctly, and professionally – in writing, so please review the detailed criteria outlined in the video below and in the AFMC Level 3 Practice and Sample Exam course, which opens after you pass the Level 2 Exam, well in advance of registering for an exam window.

This video is a detailed overview of the AFMC Level 3 requirements, processes, and success criteria and recommendations. Please also review the Level 3 Exam Overview Summary found in the AFMC Level 3 Practice and Sample Exam course for a summary of these details on preparing for success on the AFMC Level 3 Exam Case Competency.

AFMC Level 3 Process:

  • AFMC Level 3 exam may be taken in any of the three exam windows that are currently offered each year in February, June, and September.
  • All prerequisites must be satisfied before Registration for the Level 3 examination. The student is responsible for ensuring their proactive readiness prior to an exam registration period.
  • The cost of the first attempt at the AFMC Level 3 exam is included as part of the SAFM training program tuition. Each additional attempt at the exam will incur a $300 exam fee per examination window.
  • Each student must mindfully consider their readiness to sit for an exam in advance of registering for it, as a withdrawn registration counts towards the one exam attempt included in your tuition.
  • Registration for each AFMC exam window opens about 8 weeks in advance of the exam window, and eligible students will be notified via email. Registration will be open for about 10 calendar days.

AFMC Level 3 Prerequisites:

All prerequisites must be completed prior to registering for one of the AFMC exam windows.

    1. Completion of the AFMC Level 1 program and receive a passing grade on the AFMC Level 1 exam.

        • Course assignment becomes available in the AFMC Level 3 Practice and Sample Exam course, after passing the AFMC Level 2 exam.

AFMC Level 3 Exam Details:

  • During the six-week period prior to each exam window, registered students have access to an Exam Review course, all the details of the Exam Case Study they must assess, and associated weekly emails to provide guided preparation to plan your studying and preparation. It is up to the student to ensure receipt of these emails and to plan their own study and preparation approach.
  • Successful completion of all AFMC exams requires a passing score of 85% or higher.
  • The Level 3 exam is an assessment of a Case Study, open-book, and submission must occur within the 10 day exam window deadline (no late submissions will be accepted). The student has the entire exam preparation window (6+ weeks) during which to assess the case and prepare their submission.  Level 3 exam requires submission of a completed and uploaded SAFM Map and and online Case Assessment, based on the current case study presented in the exam course*. Details are found on both the AFMC Level 3 Practice and Sample Exam course page and the AFMC Certification Level 3 Exam course page under the AFMC Level 3 Exam Overview Summary.

*A button to submit your Case Study Assessment and SAFM Map document will appear on the private exam course page that you will have access to in your student dashboard when the exam preparation course opens.  However, you will not be able to submit your documents for the Level 3 examination until the start of the 10 day exam window.
