Continuing Education at SAFM

The School of Applied Functional Medicine’s (SAFM) training program meets the rigorous standards for accreditation or approved course status with the following organizations.

If you hold a license or certification in a modality not represented here, please contact your healthcare licensing or governance board to apply for determination of equivalency, or inquire if continuing education credits from ACCME-accredited organizations are recognized and accepted toward fulfilling your continuing education requirements.

SAFM adheres to the standards outlined by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to ensure that educational activities are held without commercial influence and in full compliance.

MD/DO: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of MedicusCME and the School of Applied Functional Medicine (SAFM). MedicusCME is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  

MedicusCME designates this Internet Enduring Activity for a maximum of 50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.  To obtain CMEs, students must successfully complete all requirements for the AFMC Level 1 or/and Level 2 exam(s) and the Request for Credit Survey.  Also eligible offerings include SAFM’s Essential Gut Deep Dive: Applied Functional Medicine Know-How for Practitioners (10 CMEs).

Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in either of the above learning activities.

ND: Generally, naturopathic state licensing boards accept continuing education courses accredited through the ACCME. Please contact your state naturopathic board to inquire if CME credits from ACCME-accredited organizations are accepted.

PA: The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts all continuing education credits from organizations accredited by the ACCME. Please contact your state physician assistant board to inquire if continuing education credits from ACCME-accredited organizations are accepted.

Nursing Professional: For the purpose of re-certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), contact hours approved through ACCME are normally accepted. Please contact your state nursing board to inquire if continuing education credits from ACCME-accredited organizations are accepted.

Pharmacists (PharmD/RPh): This activity has been planned and implemented through the joint providership of CPE Consultants, LLC and the School of Applied Functional Medicine (SAFM).

CPE Consultants, LLC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education and complies with the accreditation standards for continuing pharmacy education activities

Requirements for Successful Completion and Awarding of CPE Credit: To receive continuing pharmacy education credit, participants must:

  • Complete all required program coursework and activities within the applicable SAFM program level (Level 1 or Level 2)
  • Successfully pass the corresponding AFMC certification exam
  • Provide their NABP e-PID number and month/day of birth for submission to CPE Monitor®
  • Complete the activity evaluation form.

Detailed instructions are provided in the SAFM Continuing Education Request form that is emailed to students after passing the AFMC Level 1 or AFMC Level 2 examination.

SAFM adheres to the Course Approval guidelines outlined by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) for third-party training providers.

SAFM has met the significantly revised 2022 standards to be approved as an NBHWC Approved Course Provider. Please note that CE units for some courses may have changed.

Individual courses are assigned a unique Course ID number. This number and the Approved Course seal (above) accompany each certificate of completion.

National board certified health and wellness coaches (NBC-HWC), certified through and in good standing with NBHWC, who successfully fulfill all requirements for one of the individual courses listed below are eligible to apply for the associated contact hours. The application also requires completion of a Request for Credit Survey.
