Hi!
I am so excited to share this Facebook Live and THESE POWERFUL PEARLS of functional medicine with you. At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.
In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!
Hormones are powerful, complex messenger molecules in the body. They are sending chemical signals 24/7, to assure activities throughout the body are coordinated in response to our environment. This is the beautiful *dance* of the hormones that includes metabolic, stress, and sex hormones. Of course, there are many things which can challenge and interfere with that coordination, leading to imbalance and dysfunction (from hot flashes to IBS to anxiety). Our dancing hormones can start “stepping on each other’s toes”.
Thank you very much for joining in the fun and learning!
With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many –
P.S. If you are passionate about transforming healthcare through the power of functional medicine, we encourage you to learn more about our training program here.

As always thank you Tracy for all your knowledge and information. I am really looking forward to taking the hormone deep dive course this semester. A takeaway for me was the part about insulin resistance and how it can cause a hormonal imbalance and overproduce testosterone. Another takeaway was not only to look at total hormone but also free as well. The importance of both urine testing as well as saliva testing. Wow I can’t wait till the fall!!!
Thank you, Tracy! Very interesting talk on such a complicated topic. I found the piece about microbial imbalance and the beta glucuronidase regulatory affect on estrogen levels very interesting and informative. So many amazing interrelated details!
Such great info! Always need a refresher, but the expounding upon cortisol and its ups and downs and how they relate to symptoms, really opened my eyes!
Definitely learned some new, applicable wisdom too.
Thanks for the pearls today!! I enjoyed the talk on Cortisol and the thyroid hormone discussions, specifically Reverse T3 functionality. My question is about tracking cortisol levels and organic acid testing. Which is the best diagnostic lab … Dutch, Great Plains, or Genova? And why would you choose one over the other?
Thanks!!
Thank you for such an informative webinar! Definitely going to try the recommendation of Insoitol and Vitex for my PCOS patients!
Such great content, Tracy. Always learn so much. Today’s pearl for me had to do with reasons for the difference between free and available cortisol and what influences cortisol.
Great information on ensuring Estrogen clearance as part of managing Estrogen dominance, using Calcium D-gluconate.
Wow, my head is spinning. There was so much info and so many pearls.
I thought that the info on the fact that increased stress increases binding globulins.
thanks
Hi,
What a wonderful lecture! I am a Certified Nurse-Midwife in MA and passionate about functional medicine. I so appreciated the discussion on the need to testing before treating. In particular, how high or low cortisol can be problematic and that saliva testing does not provide the whole picture. Excited to look more into DUTCH method. I would love to take your course!
Hi Tracy, Thank you for a wonderful basket of Pearls today. My big take home was the DUTCH testing. I have a great ND who only draws blood to test my hormones. I will talk to him about this. Thank you! Patty Ferrington
I loved the fact that the Dr. touched base on the importance on the Dutch testing for hormones.
Loved the rationales for urine vs saliva testing for cortisol.
How can pick one thing that inspired me the most?!? Tracy provides so many clinical pearls and her depth of knowledge of the material is phenomenal! Personally, I know that a thyroid misdiagnosis for years caused me to “malfunction” for years until I started seeing a functional practitioner. The exact same thing happened to me as in her example, TSH was normal so I must be depressed to be so lethargic, so antidepressants were prescribed. I love each and every one of these informative videos!!!
Low ferritin can decrease T4-T3 conversion
Understanding DIM was made more clear after this talk. Thanks so much!
Selenium deficiency and thyroid function was a good tip for me.
I am super intrigued by PCOS as it seems like I am seeing more and more women all the time come in with a PCOS diagnosis. I love learning about how to help these women with their everyday SSX but also the ones who are trying to get pregnant.
Really liked the discussion on differences between Dutch and salivary testing. Along with total hormone levels and “free” hormone levels. The specifics/importance around morning cortisol levels really surprised me.
Great webinar! I loved the simple wisdom of ‘Test, don’t guess’.
All wonderful information!! I personally always appreciate the reminder about full spectrum light before bed. I’m personally affected by challenges in sleeping soundly, and often feel like I haven’t slept well.
Additionally, the pearls of wisdom related to heavy periods and female reproductive health have inspired me to learn more. This is a systemic problem in my clients.
