Autoimmune Dis-ease: Myths and Truths

Hi!

I am so excited to share this Facebook Live and THESE POWERFUL PEARLS of functional medicine with you.  At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.

In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!

This family of diseases is very often triggered and exacerbated by chronic inflammation, especially by what is generated in the gut. Our immune system can end up in a chronic, misguided “alarm” state in response to something we are carrying around in our bodies. Find out about common triggers, and what other factors can be playing a role…

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things we’ll be discussing:

  • THE common threads holding autoimmune diseases together
  • Why a comprehensive stool test may Not be a good idea
  • Vitamin D: too much of a good thing?
  • Yes, FOOD is everything. And for more reasons than you may realize!
  • What happens in the gut doesn’t stay in the gut
  • The biochemical connection of Stress (can you explain it?)
  • The ongoing saga of missing body parts
  • Why we need to Stop saying that the body is attacking itself!

Thank you very much for joining in the fun and learning!

With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many –

I’m so grateful I have come across SAFM- Tracy is a wealth of knowledge and has a fun and stimulating way of teaching about FM. Every article/video I read/watch is full of information that is so informative. Glad they are on the site for repetitive watching as so much info to learn and absorb. Hilights for me (what I retained i.e.) is AI disorders are reversable by reducing oxidative stress. I so appreciate Tracy’s regard for Integrative medicine as the need to triage and acute inflammation does need ‘conventional’ intervention, initially. Tracy is helping me understand the chemistry and microbial interactions of AI disease. I learned so much about Vit D on her video about that-still need to review it several times to understand the correlations of Mg, Ca++, Vit A for optimum dosing levels. ( I WAS a believer in high dose Vit D, but now have modified to lower doses as a result of learning about it from Tracy).
Copper needed for dopamine production-another pearl! So much to learn….
    Thank you Tracy 🙂

    Linda Noel says:

Thank you for the reminder of the link between Vitamin D and Magnesium, especially when on high dose Vitamin D therapy as I am. I do take Magnesium supplements but can become lax in it because I take it at bedtime. I will now be more diligent about taking magnesium every day.

    Lori Kimble says:

I am a proponent of integrative therapies which allow patients to buy into conventional treatments for the short term, while looking for root causes to effect healing in the long term. I was excited to hear you talk about this too Traci! Thanks so much for all that you do.

    Bonnie says:

Thank you so much for your wonderful teaching. I am amazed at how many of our health problems stem by what we eat and put in our bodies. So much good information.

    Cindy says:

Thank you for your wonderful insights on AID. I appreciate the context provided for Vitamin D and prescribed immunosupressants. What kind of support do you recommend for virus-related AID drivers such as EBV?

    Tony Ferro says:

The body is an amazing machine! You make understanding how it operates so user
Friendly! I have MS and have been putting together the pieces of my individual puzzle since diagnosis.

    Victoria M Lynch says:

I loved learning from Tracy – she breaks everything down to easier parts and pieces that are relevant and full of great information. Today it was interesting to learn about the effect of Vitamin D on the immune system, and the balance of minerals and their impact. Thank you as always for sharing!

    Brenda Hurst says:

What impacted me most is receiving this wonderful video (and all her videos) every month, plus her wealth of info on SAFM that she lovingly shares with the world. I feel so excited every time I hear her speak. This (SAFM) is definitely what I want to learn and add to my practice. I just don’t feel complete without it!

    Lucy Bhalla says:

Another great session, many helpful pearls! Good to learn that high level of Vitamin D is immunosuppressant and copper & zinc compete in absorption.

    Megan says:

Empowering that autoimmunity is not necessarily a life sentence or ‘a mysterious body attacking itself for no reason’. My dad has an autoimmune disease and it is frustrating as a coach to see how the doctors keep heaping on more drugs with any suggestions of lifestyle choices that may help. He’s twice landed in hospital with serious events directly from the immunosuppressant drugs or from the combination. I feel more prepared to have some conversations with him.

The concepts between D immune suppression, and magnesium deficiency. This has me thinking about the extremely high vitamin D protocols why they work and the damage they could potentiay do beyond the worry to the liver.

I have healed my immune system (SLE) in several ways by losing weight and healthier eating, yet I learned more details of why my immune system reacts to environment, genetics. Its amazing!!! Our Western doctors do not have ALL the answers..

    viktoriya Pleshkan says:

In today’s section on autoimmune diseases I really appreciated the comment about the immunosuppressive medications. As an NP I have developed a sense of urgency and negative attitude toward the immunosuppresive meds as they may cause many undesirable effects including cancer. However, today I received a great reminder that beyond this reasonable fear of irreversible bodily damage from these powerful drugs, one must understand and appreciate their protective qualities. Thank you.

    Nan Foster says:

Loved learning about the fragility of the immune system during a practical treatment regimen and the delicate balance between vitamins and minerals that act in concert with one another.
