True Health or Not True Health

I am so excited to share this Facebook Live with you. All current practitioners – both newcomers and veterans to functional medicine science – are welcome. I bring you fresh knowledge and insight into the functional medicine interconnectedness at play with some fascinating case examples of the (often huge) difference between treating disease and reversing root causes.

At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between the pieces of each patient’s unique case. This approach makes all the difference in the world in your business. Because here’s a truth you need to hear: Absence of symptoms and true health are NOT the same thing. We’ve got to be willing to dive into the detailed and unique interconnectedness for each person.

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things I discuss in this video:
  • The fundamental flaw that prevents conventional medicine from being effective in reversing chronic disease
  • The common mistake many practitioners make in looking for Root Causes of dis-ease (are you doing it too?)
  • Unexpected connections in hypertension: the common remedy worsens the very thing it’s supposed to be helping (this one will definitely surprise you)
  • Common conventional rapid relief intervention can even be life-threatening
  • A classic heart disease intervention actually increasing the risk of a tragic cardiovascular event
  • The most important true root causes of dis-ease that are missed – every single day! – by even savvy practitioners

Thank you very much for joining in on the fun and learning!

With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many,

    Lauren says:

This was the first FB live of yours I’ve seen and it was rich in clinical insight. I’m a newly practicing Acupuncturist with deep interest in combining Functional Medicine with my already individualized treatment strategies. Many of my patients have various root causes that stem from lifestyle and medication. They come to me desperately wanting to restore their health by natural means. I believe your core 101 would drastically increase my ability to provide successful outcomes in my practice.

    Samantha says:

As always this was just pure brilliance leaving me thirsty for more! I enjoyed listening to how some of the most popular medications that might be beneficial for acute situations can leave a person at risk for further complications! This was a good reminder that not all current health conditions presented are from current lifestyle choices, but indeed can be from the last 1-2 years from a particular medication/medications. Just Brilliant! Thanks for the time you take to share all these pearls!

    Courtney Carmadelle says:

How important a healthy gut is in absorbing nutrients and some foods are not as nutritious because the soil is missing the important minerals. Medication can be harsh on the body when taken long term and they can have negative effects when taken over a long period of time. It is important that clients realize there are different healthy options to reverse dis ease

    Dana Skinner says:

Thank you so much for the Facebook live presentations. I love the format and could listen to them all day. It is so helpful to have these reminders and clarifications of things to look for and ask clients when sorting thru the complicated systems of what is actually making them “sick”. Thank you again, I cannot wait until next month’s! Would love to be blessed with the Core 1 semester.

    Dia Fuller says:

I was very interested to hear more about the role of nsaids play in disrupting the integrity of the gut lining. I used to take ibuprofen daily for neck pain & headaches. I don’t take it it anymore because I have found other solutions. I knew they weren’t good for me. Ive learned from a scope that I had done that I have damage to my small intestines. I now wonder if this could have been caused by overuse of nsaids. I remember very clearly that the dr recommend that I don’t take nsaids. So many people overuse these over the counter medications. I’d love to learn more about this topic. Thank you!

    Joanna Bowen says:

Inspired to take another pass at talking to my mother about the prescription drugs her doctor insists she remain on for her hypertension & cholesterol. We’ve had this conversation before, but today’s session gave me new insights to bring into the conversation.

    Danielle Fritz says:

I really believe in lifestyle changes to aid in the healing process!

    Elissavet Koutouxidou says:

I am just completely in love with the talks you so generously offer and I hear them over and over again!
They provide me with so many invaluable information and revelations!
Today I was especially surprised to find out about the connection between beta-blockers and the melatonin production.
In my practice I encounter all the time clients with autoimmune disorders, hormonal imbalances, severe sleep problems, and devastating fatigue. I really want to study and learn in depth the biochemistry of the human body, so that I can truly help them achieve optimal health, creativity and satisfaction in their lives!
Thank you so much Tracy for these pearls of deep knowledge and interconnectedness you offer! I will definitely continue to listen to them!

    Christine says:

A big take away for me was the discussion on beta blockers and insomnia-wow what a lightbulb moment! I do have a question on familial hypercholesterolemia-can someone with this get by without statins?

    Brenda Tiffner says:

Once again, such great information. I love how you call them pearls. I have a great case study for this course. I literally could think of 10-15 clients off the top of my head could use this type of information to come off meds and lead life with immense improved quality. Melatonin , is a great hormone to talk about as it seems to be an aide for many who just say , oh I just couldn’t sleep so I took some melatonin and never get to the root of why they can’t sleep. Thank you and hoping to be studying , learning and practicing your pearls of wisdom September 17th, 2018!

    Kathern Bly says:

I love how passionate Tracey is…the program was recommended to me and I’m presently saving and plan to attend your program in 2020..which seems like so far away! LOL.

I took Culinary Nutrition Expert with Meghan Telpner and am currently studying David Wolfe’s nutrition certification and Lars Gustaffson’s (both of Body Mind Institute) Body Mind Nutrition and Sports Nutrition…I’m presently changing my own life/ food etc..

What is moving me and wanting me to study sooner is the fact that I have had my mother had part of her colon removed due to cancer, my father had his prostate removed due to cancer..but his PSA counts still increase and doctors want him to have radiation IF they get any higher…but brush him off since he doesn’t want radiation and my partner has been on heart meds for years. To help, I’ve changed our diets (some of us are plant food based) and adding adaptogens and nourishing foods/supplements. I feel like that is all I can possibly do right now and
I truly desire to take your program. It’s hard to wait, and save, because I want to help them now!!!! But it was so awesome to get a chance to hear Tracey speak…I’ve heard how passionate she is and WOW knowledgeable! I want to learn from her…so awesome! I have no doubt in my mind now that the school of applied functional medicine is for me! Especially now, after hearing Tracey speak! Thanks so much for all you do! Sincerely, Kathern bly

I really respect the way you present info If that’s the way the school teaches that’s amaze balls. Looking for a structured schooling (somewhat) and would love to hear more about how the program is run? Also need to learn how to zero in on the important stuff and not the fluff, how do you prioritize?
Thank you for a great presentation!

    Jacquelin Pichardo says:

  14. 27
    Rene Beaulieu says:

My big nuget that I will share with my clients is how Tracey articulated that medications NEVER EVER just have one effect on our bodies and that ANY drug should be used for the shortest period of time possible till we can uncover the root cause.

  15. 26
    Sherri McHenry says:

Hey! I just LoVe your teaching style, enthusiasm and easy to understand clinical pearls that have such a big impact on the client’s healing. You really are a master at making great connections on how things are all interconnected in the body. The info on the NSAIDS might explain some of my issues that I had not considered in my healing journey. Thanks for that! And have a great day.

    Heather says:

Your heart-centered approach woven with in-depth clinical knowledge resonates so strongly with what I feel many people are searching for in their own experience with their practitioner. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, enthusiasm, and heart. May it continue to spread!

    Bethany Gadbois says:

Hello, I have watched two of your LIVE videos and enjoy the content very much so! Thank you for making this valuable information available! I am in the middle of getting my yoga teacher certification by the end of 2018, which has begun to expose me to even more of this area of interest. I have also done a lot of unofficial study, reading, and researching on my own in mainly women’s health issues, due to having a thyroid condition of my own. I have been able to successfully improve and manage most of my symptoms using several functional medicine and alternative medicine techniques, which has been a motivating factor in my hunger for learning.

I would LOVE to hear your input on thyroid conditions and medication. Especially after your discussion today about medication(s) that people may be taking on a daily basis.

    Thank you!!

    Deaun says:

Functional medicine is so enlightening. I struggle with “competing” with traditional docs who tell my patients I’m practicing bad medicine when I try to help them with better nutrition and wiser choices. Anticoagulants and coronary artery disease is rampant such interconnectedness! I’m thankful for this education and encouragement from SAFM.

At this point and time, I am so grateful for this kick-off to the beginning of my semester! I truly hope someday to complete your course ! I am an instructor for future laboratory professionals. We are sometimes forgotten in this new medicine frontier! I always hope to bring this awareness to this group of medical professionals. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
Yep, the note pad is full of new great pearls 🙂 I would appreciate any additional thoughts on how you see laboratory professionals fitting into this world of functional medicine!
